It has been a while since a book brought tears to my eyes, but this beautiful book struck a chord with me and down my cheeks they fell. Louise begins her story by telling the reader that she has changed her name to Thumbelina. Both characters are known for being small and this is how she chooses to identify herself. A note delivered with her pizza sends Louise on a quest to figure out the identity of her secret admirer.

Multiply creepy (including a "nice guy" who gets the girl through creepy stalkery behavior--not in a Twilight way, just in ways that the "nice guys" I know always think is romantic; no one really wants mysterious letters and packages). Why did her grandparents tell her Thelma and Louise wanted to be free of their lives? That seems cruel. Odd subplots, like the friend's sister who is a successful artist--what IS that? Not a Newbery possibility.

I was looking for a book for middle schoolers that has a hint of romance, but nothing too physical. While I did like this novel, it didn't rate as high as I was hoping. There were too many references that I wasn't familiar with (kids right now probably would!) and I feel like the references would make the book seem dated in a few years. There was a little too much uncertainty in the book for my tastes. It definitely deals with a touchy subject.

So, when my husband asked me if I had started on a new book yet, I said no, that I had looked for an ebook from the library to download but they didn't have anything I was interested in. I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN THAT I HAD BOTH DOWNLOADED AND STARTED READING THIS BOOK, that's how little it interested me. Bad news.

A touching book about moving on from tragedy and the ways that friends and family support us. I thought the teen voices rang true. Appropriate for younger middle schoolers.

I love the sweet romance in this story and the emotional connection of the main character. It is well told and a very approachable romance for younger and middle grade.

I did like the part with the camera in the park. The rest was all words no emotion.

I didn't love it but it turned out to be a pretty good little story.
