This was an interesting book. It reminded me of the movie Big Fish. The entire book I didn't know if I was reading someone's tall tale or what. In the end it still left me wondering a little bit. Just like in the movie, you never really know what really happened and what was stretched truth.

However, it made for a fun story. A story that reminds me of how some children's minds work. Big and fantastical.

3.5 stars. I love Sharon Creech, and there were a lot of things I loved about this book. It was unpredictable and warm and a lot of fun. I just felt like it was too nicely tied up at the end and maybe a bit rushed. My girls, 7 and 5, really enjoyed too, though, and it was fun to read together.

I can imagine it would be hard to follow if you read it in several sittings because it jumped around quite a bit (although the different style texts helped.) I can also imagine that as a kid I would have had a hard time connecting the dots but as an adult I loved it!
