This is such a great book. After Hattie Big Sky, we find that she needs to move on and find another way to make her way in life. The problem? The most obvious, easy solution doesn't feel like the *right* one to her. She feels prompted to move to San Francisco of all places and try her hand at being a newspaper reporter. Say what? Talk about crazy talk! Men are getting back from the war, and sure there is one female reporter, Nelly Bly, that shows a women can be a reporter - but who is Hattie to ...more

I just met Hattie earlier this year, thanks to Hattie Big Sky, so I had a shorter wait than most. A seventeen year old girl staking out a homestead claim of her own in the middle of nowhere in Montana is pretty hard to top. In Hattie Ever After we have more of the same intelligent, capable Hattie. Hattie is never snarky or cynical, always optimistic and never prissy, which is why I think so many people were interested in what a sequel.

Now in San Francisco, Hattie is determined to be a newspaper

I love this character--her determination to succeed (to become a reporter), her big heart, her willingness to make sacrifices in order to follow her own dream before she gets tied down.

I think Kirby Larson is an incredibly talented author, and I adored Hattie Big Sky. so I couldn't wait to get my hands on Hattie Ever After. What a wonderful read! My favorite part (and I didn't know it was going to happen) was Hattie's foray into the newspaper business. They even mention Nellie Bly, a name I hadn't thought about since I was young. I so wanted to be Nellie Bly after reading a biography about her in elementary; I was convinced I would be an investigative reporter just like Nellie ...more

This was a very enjoyable, easy-to-like and easy-to-read story about Hattie moving to San Francisco in 1919 and trying to figure out how to break in to the newspaper business as a reporter. My only objection is that one aspect of the story that might surprise the younger reader became too predictable for me.

I really was looking forward to this book because of loving her first book. I enjoyed the contrast in the setting with Hattie living in the city and allowing us to follow her journey in the newspaper business. It was my first book read on my kindle which was fun.

Though I think she uses too many exclamation points, I love Hattie and think she earns comparisons to Anne Shirley. Both started as just orphan girls and eventually became confident, intrepid women with big dreams.

This story takes place in San Francisco in 1919. Hattie works hard to become a reporter at the Chronicle, facing down sexism, scandal, and her heart tugging her towards Seattle and Charlie. I love that Hattie decides to put her career hopes first instead of just marrying Charlie and s

This is a beautifully written historical fiction novel that I couldn't put down. The author's note at the end shed an interesting light on the development of Hattie's story and the research involved. ...more
