What Members Thought

Read it a long time ago and was not too impressed. Read it a few weeks ago again, and something was different this time. I liked it much more. I think when Dickens is forced upon you it is not fun, but when you pick up Dickens on your own accord, it can be magical. I suppose this can be true of most books though.

I wouldn't rate this as highly as the other Dickens books I have read (Great Expectations, David Copperfield and Bleak House) and it took me a while to get into it. The story is quite slow at the beginning but as you get closer to the end there is more action and I began to look forward to reading on.

I wouldn't be surprised if my rating went up next time I read it (and there will be a next time). I really enjoyed this. It was full of twists and turns, none of which I had anticipated. The characters were vivid, and that last chapter was just sheer perfection. ...more
