That was one wonderfully emotional ride!
I loved the heartfelt story!
I loved and connected with the characters.... except Sophie the stupid psychotic $&+#&!

And Jordan and Colin!!

I absolutely loved reading from Nate's perspective because he's so awesome and such a passionate musician.
I am an avid musician as well, so I really connected with Nate on a deeper level. It was actually really nice! I don't remember every really feeling a character as though they were myself like Nate!

I just had the biggest sigh of contentment after reading this book. It was cute, fun, sarcastic, sweet, and clever! I loved how each chapter was titled a name of a movie and then within the chapter, the movie was mentioned and how Jordan and Nate’s lives correlated to it! It was brilliant!

Nate is just too nice! He doesn’t stir the pot! But when his brothers accidently pour coffee on his computer with his just barely saved class assignment he hits his limit. As he is out walking and trying to fig I just had the biggest sigh of contentment after reading this book. It was cute, fun, sarcastic, sweet, and clever! I loved how each chapter was titled a name of a movie and then within the chapter, the movie was mentioned and how Jordan and Nate’s lives correlated to it! It was brilliant!

As he is out walking and trying to figure out what to do, he stops in a little coffee shop and meets Pearl. If you have read some of the other books in the series you know that Pearl is a matchmaker. She has some kind of magic and she likes to find people their perfect matches. But she tells Nate that Jordan needs a roommate. While she is telling him that, Nate’s girlfriend (whom no one likes) is present. She agrees. Nate’s girlfriend doesn’t like his brothers. So Nate goes and checks out the apartment only to find that Nate is a girl. He knows his girlfriend won’t go for it but Nate really likes everything about the apartment and kind of gets his girlfriend to agree to it before she finds out that Jordan is a girl. Sophie (the girlfriend) isn’t happy but she agrees that if something is amiss Nate will leave. But Nate really likes it there and gets along with Jordan really well. She is also into the arts although its movies she is into. That’s what she is in school for. Nate and Jordan share lots of ice cream together. Jordan never pressures Nate into anything and gets him. Quickly they really become best friends. Jordan’s other best friend is Colin. The three are always there for anything that happens for any of the three of them always.

As time goes on, Nate finds himself and learns that Sophie may not really be the one for him. He loves his brothers but he needs his space from them. He isn’t the party type.

I love watching Nate grow. I love his family and their dad. I love Jordan and how she is kind and listens to people. She helps Nate find his favorite movie and Nate helps Jordan find her favorite song. I love how they do that. I love how the romance between them isn’t even mentioned until late in the book as Nate is faithful and Nate and Jordan become best friends first. I love their conversations. I love Pearl’s conversations. I love how I feel what the characters are feeling. I freaking love this book!

If you want a book that makes you feel good, if you like ice cream, music, movies, crazy girlfriends, finding who you are, finding your best friend then falling in love with that person, then you might like this book too! ...more

I am a huge fan of Kelly Oram books. Cinder & Ella is one of my favorite books ever, along with V is for Virgin and I just recently read the Being Jamie Baker series. ALL great books!

If We Were a Movie is a romantic comedy that is actually told from the main male characters POV, Nate. While I did enjoy this difference I did miss getting more background of the lead female Jordan. I think I like it better when the POV changes back an ...more

I am not gonna lie, I am a bit of a Kelly Oram fangirl. Her books are always a mixture of sweet and clever with clean romance and likable characters. This book however goes above and beyond.

It has all the classic "Kelly Oram" elements that I love and adds wonderful interwoven references to movies and songs that make me want to binge watch, create playlists and re-read the book all at once.

I received this book as an ARC in exchanged for an honest review and I love it. This was such a creative book incorporating different movies into the story. It was so much fun the further I was in the book to guess what the situation would be between the movie of the chapter title to the storyline. Kelly Oram did an amazing job with mixing the two; movie and storyline. As for the story itself it is a very emotional romance triangle between Nate, Sophia, and Jordan. Kelly Oram has done it again. The first book I read from this author was Cinder and Ella, this book reminds me a lot of that one. In that it hits pretty much any emotion you could think of, from happiness to anger (usually from 1 page to the next). Besides the emotional roller coaster there is the interesting way that the movie and song references were connected to the things that were happening to the characters at the time. Have you ever read a book that just left you with this big goofy grin? Yeah, that’s this book! If We Were a Movie by Kelly Oram is such a fun, light-hearted read about how two people find each other in the unlikeliest of ways. Nate Anderson is a music major, a triplet, and tired of living under his brothers’ shadows when Miss Pearl intervenes sending him to Jordan who happens to be a film major and looking for a roomie. However when Nathan shows up, he realizes Jordan is a she and his girlfriend would never approve of the living arrangement. BUT after his brothers wreck his computer he takes the apartment and realizes that sometimes fate works in mysterious ways.

I adore Nate! He is such a great character and one of the best POV I’ve read in a long time. The book reads like Nate is talking to you, the reader, and it instantly drew me in. He’s quirky, got a little snark to him, but he’s kind, loving, and loyal. Despite his brothers totally trashing his computer, he still loves them and he still forgives them. There’s a bond among them that Kelly Oram does a wonderful job conveying.

And then there’s Jordan who just puts a huge smile on my face. She’s just as quirky as Nate, believes that there is a movie that mirrors every life moment, and despite outward appearances a little broken. She’s a child of a nasty divorce, her last roommate slept with her boyfriend, and this has left her with a very negative outlook on men. Nate becomes a bit of a savior for her as she does for him. She saves him from rooming with his brothers and he saves her from depression. Have you ever heard the phrase “they just fit” when referencing a couple? Well that’s these two. They just fit!

Obviously this book is a contemporary romance and the storyline follows that. It’s like reading your favorite rom com! Nate and Jordan play off each other so well. At the beginning of the story, Nate is having one of those days where anything that could go wrong does and then Miss Pearl intervenes. (Have I mentioned just how much I LOVE Miss Pearl?!) Jordan is the first person Nate has met that doesn’t think he’s crazy for majoring in music. Rather than insulting him by saying what everyone says (“you can’t make a career with that degree”), she supports him. Rather than hating his brothers and being insensitive to his feelings, she understands and supports him. This is the complete opposite of what Nate is used to from his long-term girlfriend Sophie. Jordan and Nate bring out the best in each other and it is how they overcome the obstacles in their path that make this an epic romance that EVERYONE should read!

Overall, if you haven’t already guessed, I LOVED this book! I loved Nate, I loved Jordan, I loved their quirky banter and all the movie references. Mrs. Oram I bow to you, the movie master! She seamlessly incorporates all my favorites and some classic movie references into the book as Nate tells his story. If you enjoy clean, romantic comedy, I highly recommend you grab a copy of this book! ...more

Let's be clear that when I give this book a 4.5, it isn't because it was "bad" by any means. There was just this one part that hit me like a truck...in a bad way (for those of you going, "Is there a GOOD way to be hit by a truck?" just read the book and you'll understand): when I found out Sophie and Nate had had...intimate moments together. That was it. That's all I was uncomfortable with. However, I could see that Kelly Oram needed that one big conflict that could potentially pull Jordan an 4.5
Let's be clear that when I give this book a 4.5, it isn't because it was "bad" by any means. There was just this one part that hit me like a truck...in a bad way (for those of you going, "Is there a GOOD way to be hit by a truck?" just read the book and you'll understand): when I found out Sophie and Nate had had...intimate moments together. That was it. That's all I was uncomfortable with. However, I could see that Kelly Oram needed that one big conflict that could potentially pull Jordan and Nate apart, because a psychotic clingy ex-girlfriend simply wasn't enough.
I positively loved Nate, Jordan, and all their other friends (Sophie can, of course, go fall into a never-ending pit and rot and crumble in despair). Even Nate's brothers came to grow on me after a while.
Nate is... -le sigh- amazing. As has been mentioned and demonstrated multiple times in the book (though not overly so, so props to Oram for not going overboard with her writing style, as well), Nate is an incredibly loyal, thoughtful, lovable, basically amazing guy. He tries not to lose his temper even when the other person in the conversation (ahem Sophie AHEM) completely deserved his full hate. However, he wasn't a COMPLETE pushover, which was something I thought should qualify Oram as a mind-blowing genius. It's incredibly hard to find that middle ground and stay on that path in any situation and Oram pulled it off beautifully. For example, I simply LOVED when Nate told off on Sophie, ESPECIALLY, obviously, that last "showdown" between them. -swoon- Oh a psycho b*tch put in her place...I think I'm in love.
Jordan. Jordan was...what's a word short of perfect? But really, I couldn't find anything wrong with Jordan's character. I'm sure there's SOMETHING about her personality someone out there could point their annoyance about but I can't seem to think of anything-which is sort of a first for me. She was understanding when Nate went through his crisis (Hurricane Sophie). She tried to be the bigger person and leave the apartment to Nate and move back to LA. Oh. I've thought of one thing that pissed me off about Jordan, albeit, only for a short time: she liked dirtbags. That was just...UGHHHHHH. Nate give her a logical explanation for why she shouldn't go out with Blaze and SHE STILL WENT. Not only that, but there was the guy before him, and the OTHER guy before him. I could see Colin's line of thinking when he said that Nate should just let her go with Blaze because she needs to learn the hard way not to date douches but, after a look at Jordan's dating history, that wasn't exactly the smartest idea. In the end though, it worked out. She ended up with a non-douche, which definitely cooled my frustration.
Colin...hah. Could you ask for a better supporting character? Hands down, Colin was THE BOMB. And I think that says it all about him. Read the book and you'll see why I think he's the perfect friend (even though he's fictional).
Ohhhhhhh another thing I fangirled over about the book were the references to Oram's previous books. At times, it was a little too much, but I especially loved the part about Rob from Oram's Cinder & Ella. I love how she slipped in those tidbits about the futures of some of the Cinder & Ella characters. -sigh- I hope Rob is happy... *looks into the distance*.
Anyways, those were the main points I wanted to record that I liked from this story. Hopefully, someone isn't reading this to determine whether or not to read the book since those spoiler bombs pretty much told the whole story... ...more
