What Members Thought
I was unexpectedly touched by the depth of this story. The combination of drawings and story is exquisite, and the exploration of art and a sense of place (living in two homes) is complex without feeling heavy. Her relationship with her family is not perfect, but there's clearly love there.

I really liked how the author approaches a difficult topic subtly. Emily is quite artistic and enjoys the work of Pablo Picasso. In fact, she even experiences a blue period just like him. Emily's favorite artist is Picasso and when he was depressed, he used a lot of blue in his cubist artwork. Since Emily's dad not longer lives with them, she feels her life has become depressing so like her idol, she goes into a "blue" period. An assignment to make your home ala Picasso, leaves Emily perplexed---which one. Happy ending for all.

I enjoyed this story of a young artist and how she uses her study of Picasso and her own art to help her deal with her parent's divorce. I really enjoyed Emily's collage, maybe the brief introduction to Picasso would encourage some young artists to learn more about him...
