I was unexpectedly touched by the depth of this story. The combination of drawings and story is exquisite, and the exploration of art and a sense of place (living in two homes) is complex without feeling heavy. Her relationship with her family is not perfect, but there's clearly love there. ...more

Summary: "Emily wants to be an artist. She likes painting and loves the way artists like Pablo Picasso mixed things up.Emily's life is a little mixed up right now. Her dad doesn't live at home anymore, and it feels like everything around her is changing.
“When Picasso was sad for a while,” says Emily, “he only painted in blue. And now I am in my blue period.”

An assignment to make your home ala Picasso, leaves Emily perplexed---which one. Happy ending for all. ...more
