Steve Light has proven time and again that he knows how to engage our youngest readers. With Have You Seen My Dragon?, Steve takes us on a counting tour of New York City in search of a missing friend.

A boy's dragon goes missing and so he does the most logical thing to do when faced with a predicament such as this: search all of the places that remind you of your dragon. Did he take the bus downtown? Was he looking for something to read? Did he get hungry for ice cream? Or go to the playground? B

A counting book in an urban setting. The interesting feature is the objects to be counted are in color while the rest of the illustration is in black and white.

The map is really lovely. There are some other good children's books with maps, but this one is particularly straightforward and conducive to lesson planning. ...more

Very clever, fun counting book. Loved the illustrations and the theme of finding the "dragon" while also counting items in the city. ...more

Intricate pen and ink drawings hide a dragon and allow counting of the only colored items on the 2 page spreads.

This is a great lap book. It was a little difficult as a read aloud.

This is a great counting book—not only does it go past 10 (up to 20) but the counting is reinforced by the item to be counted being in color while the rest of the picture is in black and white. And you also get to find the dragon on each page. This might be too long for a stoytime, but it would be great to share one on one.

Part dragon hunt, part counting book, all fabulous. The endpapers are a map of the boy's route, items to count stand out in colorful contrast to the pen and ink illustrations, the perspective shifts in fun ways, and there are fun bonus pictures hidden under the dust jacket (attention to detail!) ...more

I love these illustrations, and the use of colors to highlight the counting items is a neat idea. However, I had a hard time relating the counting items to the story. Something about that bothered me.
