Maggi Rohde
A quiet portrait of a Vietnamese father and his young son, doing what needs to be done to get by in America. Touching and evocative, this is a perfect exemplar text for writing workshop (2nd-3rd).

Beautiful story about an immigrant family living in the United States. I want to add this picture book to my own personal library as a teaching tool for understanding refugees and their enormous plight.

A son is woken up early to go fishing with his father. His father has gotten a second job, but they still "have to fish for food." "...because we have a few fish and he knows we will eat tonight."

Touching and genuine this is a needed story that hints at some of the difficulties of the immigrant experience.

Capitol Choices found powerful and precious only concern that cover is the weakest part of the book and might get it overlooked.

A son tells the story of an early-morning fishing trip with his father to feed their family. Through simple language and beautiful images, Phi and Bui explore immigration and memory through the eyes of a child. Loved it.
