I adored this author's earlier Green, and I have to say that this one just might be better. It packs an emotional wallop as each page traces the relationship between a boy and his dog. Starting with the blue of a baby blanket and ending with a couple of new friends frolicking along the beach, the author uses die-cuts to reveal great depths of emotion. As anyone who's shared time with an animal knows, their time with us is often fleeting, and that puppy that scampers around the house grows up to

An utterly perfect follow-up to Green and everything you would except from someone as brilliant as Seeger, who expertly weaves together a really beautiful story of loyalty, friendship, and loss using only shades of blue in both text and illustration. I hope she continues to write a book for each color in the rainbow, and I have my fingers-crossed for this winning the 2019 Caldecott.

Lovely story about a boy and his dog that lasts the dog's lifetime. Smart play with the color of blue--not just with objects, but also with emotion.

December 2018 - I admire Seeger's color-themed books, but they don't really work as stories for me. Beautiful to look at, though.
