The pleasures of reading this picture book, which won a Caldecott Honor Medal, begin with the cover with Bear's goofy face and several trees, rendered in dark tones behind him. The first set of end papers follows that color trend with only the blue of the winding river relieving the darkness. A can't miss read aloud. Kids won't be able to resist chiming in at the "until." Every good teacher knows that this is a great place to stop and let the listeners predict. Too much fun!
