Persistence should be hyphenated to the name Maddox!

What I appreciate about the author was the effort to make the Maddox brothers different from each other. Yes, they had a lot in common, the tenacity in going after what, or who, they want was just one of them. Luckily, they shared all the admirable traits, from good looks and hot bods to loyalty and understated kindness. Whereas Travis had the balls-to-the-walls attitude down to a pat, Trenton with his sweet demeanor and Thomas was the 3.5 stars

What I appreciate about the author was the effort to make the Maddox brothers different from each other. Yes, they had a lot in common, the tenacity in going after what, or who, they want was just one of them. Luckily, they shared all the admirable traits, from good looks and hot bods to loyalty and understated kindness. Whereas Travis had the balls-to-the-walls attitude down to a pat, Trenton with his sweet demeanor and Thomas was the more serious brother, Taylor was playful and more laid back in pursuing a girl. He wasn't the best foot forward kind of guy. He was more like "I'll give it to you straight regardless of whether you think it's rude or not." And I loved it! He didn't sugar coat, and he believed in honesty even if it got him into trouble.

So yes, Taylor held his own as far as being a Maddox was concerned.

What didn't work for me, at least in the beginning, was the heroine, Falyn. I didn't hate her. In fact, I empathized with what she went through. I guess it was just a case of bad first impression. But I warmed up to her after a while. She had a lot of baggage, rightfully so. Despite coming from a well-off family, her life was far from ideal. She was intentionally broody and sarcastic to hide her pain. These Maddox boys surely love difficult women!

It takes a special kind of man to hang tough when challenges come like a rain-shower that never lets up. It takes an extraordinary man to gain strength from his defeats and mistakes. But no need to worry, because being a Maddox means having all those qualities and more.

I might have liked the storyline or enjoyed the heroines of the previous books better, or I might have thought the other books had more fluidity in the story, but a Maddox could be counted on to save the day. And Taylor was no exception. Staying true to the reputation of his siblings, he wasn't perfect and made mistakes; but patience and persistence, along with heaps of sex appeal and irresistible charm, could melt the toughest heart.

Sadly, I rated this one a 3.5. I love this author's storytelling. This one for me fell short. I wished this one had a dual POV. I would have understood more Taylor's mindset. In this story I felt Taylor was a bit weak and Falyn was overbearing and overall behavior was irritating at best. Overall, my opinion the plot line and character development was fairly executed. Looking forward to read the future writings from Ms. McGuire's (America's and Sheply's novella.) ...more
