After listening to two of my friends argue passionately about Trouble - one loved it the other loathed it, I was somehow dragged into their fight and told to read it and decide.... The verdict (sorry Kate) is that I really liked the book!.

My heart broke for Mia when you learn of all the abuse and injustices she has suffered from by the hands of two people who should have loved and protected her at all costs. Her self loathing and doubt as well as the fact she was trapped in a vicious cycle where ...more

Boy it's been AGES since I read a legit standalone book with the full story AND resolution. I'm super stoked about this journey I'm about to go on. Seriously, EVERYTHING is now part of a series, so this is absolutely refreshing.

WARNING. This book does contain scenes of abuse and almost rape. It could be difficult for some to get last the first few chapters.

Oh good hell. What happened to Mia..? The prologue starts out with her father Oliver Monroe (respected heart surgeon) dying of a heart attack and all she feels is relieved. She doesn't want the male doctor's hands on her. She doesn't like any man's hands on her so I'm thinking abuse. Oh fuck no.. This book is going to be difficult to read for a while I'm suspecting.

Mia's now dating Forbes (8 months after her father's death) who ends up being abusive.. She apparently binge eats and throws it all up. It's all about controlling something. She walks in on Forbes having sex with some chick. Of course he beats her to her apartment and almost rapes her. We find out Forbes was also abused (nothing more is revealed) and it's a case or abused turned abuser. She knees him in the balls and runs. She finally stuck up for herself. She may not be as weak as she thinks she is

Mia decides to go to Durango, CO to hunt down her mother and find out why she gave her away to Oliver. Along the way she cut off all of her beautiful thick blonde hair - she is now rocking a pixie cut. She ends up in Colorado at a hotel up in the mountains and she meets Jordan. She wound up there because Beth, a waitress at the diner, referred her. Beth immediately called Jordan and tells her about the "tourist" and to keep his hands off. His dad owns the hotel and he's holding down the fort. He is instantly attracted to her and it freaks him out. What's even stranger is Mia is reacting to him as well. His dog Dozer runs away and Mia helps find him. He was hit by a car and we learn that Mia is in her second year at Harvard for med school. She admits to Jordan that her black eye is from a guy and tells him why she's in Colorado.

Mia and Jordan are totally crushing on each other but are 100% of their element. Each are opening up little by little about their pasts. We find out that Jordan got in a bad way with gambling and he was beating up, his dad saw, beat up the kid (his dad was a cop at the time) and lost his badge and used all their money to pay his debt. Mia let it slip that Forbes tried to rape her. I'm freaking out because we know Forbes is going to catch up with Mia.. It's just a matter of when.

All it takes is some paint and these two light up like firecrackers. Oh. My. God. Belle (the woman who raised Jordan as her own) was Mia'a mother. How in the fuck is he supposed to tell her that?! Mia freaks.. Binges. Ends up in the hospital. She ends things with Jordan. Forbes is called. He tries to rape her AGAIN. She bashes him in the head with a vase. She goes to Denver for rehab. She comes back and wins Jordan back. The end.

What can I say but f....king awesome. What a page turner. These two people had major issues to contend with, but in time found out love is worth the risk. Definite read:) Enjoyed the characters funny internal dialogue. This author I truly enjoy her style of writing.

Sweet love story mixed with a horrible past for one and a self induced destruction for the other. I love how the characters complemented each other and how strong Mia develops throughout the book.
