A. What was this?! I only made it a third of the way through so I won’t rate this book, but I was so bored I had to put it down! It’s a western, but with lots of horror and gore thrown in. I’m okay with horror and gore, but this seemed to have no point other than shocking the reading, which it did not. A boy joins a group looking to go kill Mexicans and keeps coming across the aftermath of Native massacres. Not for me.
I don't know where to begin. As brutal, desolate, and depressing as this novel is, it is a must-read for all Americans. For how gross and depraved it is, "Blood Meridian" tells our history in the way that we ought to tackle it: confronting the genocidal tendencies of humankind.
