This summer I read The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. I really enjoyed the fantasy world that Tolkien created, although I did find the series challenging to follow at times. I was especially interested to note where the movies diverged from the novels because I watched the movies years ago and loved them. I found the most interesting difference to be the role of Samwise Gamgee. In the novels, Sam is more integral to the plot and I was disappointed to learn that this was changed for the movies.
