[close] I love As I Lay Dying so much it's unreal. The scene where the mom finally dies and no one will let Vardaman see her, and he runs away is so beautiful to me. He runs down this sort of dirty, dusty old road with a fish he had caught. And the fish is cut up for whatever reason and so at a point he just sits in the road and weeps because the fish was a fish, but now its not a fish anymore because its been butchered.. so he just sits and weeps, holding this massacred corpse and at the end there is a separate chapter wherein he just says, 'my mother is a fish'.
