Artemis Fowl II is a criminal mastermind... and he's only in his early teens. He kidnaps a member of the Lower Elements Police: Recon Division, named Holly Short, and holds her ransom to exploit the fantasy creatures (fairies, etc.) for their magic... All this to regain his family's fortune. It's a young adult fantasy series that I first started to read in high school, and I really ought to pick it back up to read it again. As this series is written by an Irish author, bonus points if you catch on to the LEPrecon play on Irish culture. (Exec. Tilly, "April Fools!")
