Tommy and Tuppence pay a visit to Tommy's Aunt Ada at her old age home, and fall headlong into a superb mystery. I am a little surprised that this book is rated so low by AC fans. It is one of Christie's creepiest books and there are several heart-stopping scenes, and the book is worth reading for these alone. Admittedly, the plot is a little convoluted, but it is not fully unbelievable and the story unfolds in a decent manner. It does not confuse you, but I guess fans find it tough to reconcile ...more

I didn't appreciate Tommy & Tuppence as characters when I first read the series decades ago. Now in my 60s I love how the subject of aging is tackled and how nicely the couple has settled into what they think of as "just past their prime" (even while their children consider them old and essentially useless). This one was a suspenseful story, and well told, although it didn't have nearly as much of Tommy in it as the others. (view spoiler) ...more

This is a good story but it's never been one of my favorites. I think it's the suspicion surrounding the nursing home, and the constant talk about how once you're "old" you lose your memory, your mind, your common sense... I first read this when I was a girl, and I was close to my grandparents and volunteered in our two local nursing homes, so the idea of seniors being abused upset me a lot.
