I was deeply disappointed by this book.

I thought Dave Eggers was the darling of the literary world (he's been nominated for both the Pulitzer and the National Booker award, after all), so I expected The Circle to be a well-written but dull story of how a universally-adopted modern convenience is actually evil. (Soylent Green, anyone?) Instead, what I found was a poorly written and dull story of how a universally-adopted modern convenience is actually evil. I am so confused. I'm almost as confuse

I want to delete my Facebook account, my Twitter feed, everything except for Goodreads. Of course, that's owned by Big Brother as well.

That's how I felt after finishing this scary, prescient, entertaining thriller. Take a little of The Firm, a bit of 1984 and a pinch of You've Got Mail and you have a general idea of the plot here. I blatant warning to not put all your trust in online companies. Heavy handed at times and a little too long.

DNF at 20%~ Normally I try to make it to at least 50% but with this one I just couldn't do it. It was so mind-numbing. I'm lucky I got as far as I did. No way could I sit through another 13 hours of audio. Sorry. ...more

It was a bit simplistic, and Mae's character was very passive, but overall I really enjoyed the implications of surveillance in our lives. Very creepy mob feel. ...more

I struggled with liking this book, as much as I wanted to. His last book, A Hologram for the King, is a really moving story with a lot in common with Death of a Salesman. This felt, early on, like a new take on 1984, but it didn’t have the same humanity as 1984 or Hologram. Dave Eggers, full disclosure, is a writer that I really like and may be the only writer whose books I buy when they come out. In short, I really wanted to like this book a lot.
One thing I had to expect was heavy-handedness. E

This book was terrifying, thought-provoking, and utterly engaging. But mostly terrifying.

This was like someone took all my nightmares and wrote them down in a book. Holy crap.
