2.5 stars upped to 3 stars. Beach read about an uncle who is gay (guncle) who takes care of his niece and nephew one summer when their mother dies and their father (his brother) goes to rehab for drugs. The main character is unlikeable from page one. He’s just annoying. The book is funny at times, but very predictable. Considered DNF, but stuck with it because it was selection for Novi Library Book Club.
I really liked this one, heart felt and funny. Rowley tells this story of love and grief with great heart , and without the kind of sentimentality that can leave the reader feeling manipulated
