A thought provoking read with lots of nuggets. I found the title a little off putting thinking it would be about withdrawal, seclusion, austerity, etc. and almost avoided it, but I’m glad I didn’t make that mistake (largely because I thought it would be a good idea to read this prior to today’s release of his subsequent title, “Live Not By Lies”). This is more a book about building strong Christian communities to be in the world but not of the world together. The author was Catholic at the time

Maybe I shouldn't admit this because it will just reveal how dumb I am, but the whole way through this book, I was looking for a succinct thesis statement to explain exactly what the Benedict Option is, and I never really found it. Lots of good ideas and thoughts but not a clear and concise statement of exactly what the point was.
Also, mostly because my theology differs from the author's, I found that I would adamantly agree with one statement, then vehemently disagree with the next.
