Desde que leí este libro por primera vez, siempre pensé que me gustaba más que El resplandor, lo sé, opinión impopular porque muchos creen que King no escribe nada bueno desde los 2000. De todos modos tenía la duda si al leerlos juntos cambiaría algo y la respuesta es, sí y no.

Por un lado, sigo amando este libro, cuando leí El resplandor nunca me di cuenta del enorme cariño que le tenía a Danny, y fue gracias a Doctor Sueño que lo note y no me decepcionó al mostrarme su versión adulta, que creo ...more

Leer a King aun es nuevo para mi, sin embargo mi hermana menor me introdujo en su mundo y ahora se que jamás saldré.
No puedo decir que es mejor que The Shining porque los dos son genialmente buenos, no hay comparación para mi.
Reencontrarme con Danny Torrance fue lindo y Abra es un amor, de verdad este libro me dejara algunos días con resaca emocional porque extrañaré muchísimo a Doc.
Qué más puedo decir que no esté implícito en las líneas anteriores y en lo mucho que me gusto esta obra?

ALERT: If you are one of those readers who get EXTREMELY involve with the book you are reading, by this I mean, being able to share the character's emotions and get completely lost in the book you might be able to experience migraines. Yes. As you read, near the end of this book I had a terrible migraine, and not because I was tired of it (and I don't want to give the book away) but King was able to describe the power of his main character's mind so well that it gave me a headache. I am one of those who cries, loves, hates, laughs, etc. With a character and if my character is having headaches, it seems like I might get them too.... WITH THAT SAID:

Being this my second book from Stephen King I have to say that I LOVED IT. Not only the book but his writing, his ability to jump between personalities so smoothly and so... damn well. I consider myself a huge fan of this guy now.

So, the book. I wanted this book to bring me back to life, I read its sequel "Masterpiece" The Shining right before it with a feeling of "can we just get this over with...?" so I really didn't have any expectations from this book, at least not beyond of knowing what had happen with Danny Torrance with whom I became extremely fond. S.K. gave me exactly what I wanted it, only that it lacked a bit more of transition between childhood and adulthood state. Something that he DID with Abra. May be a little more background on the past characters? I guess it was enough for his plot of Dan helping Abra get rid of the True Knot and getting through Alcoholism and traumatic life experiences.
I bet most people will pick up the book looking for that: for What happen to Danny? Did he get traumatized? Did he became a drunk writer like his dad? Probably a version of Stephen King: A writer of horror books (adapted from his childhood in this case unlike King) affected at some point in his life by alcoholism? If this is what you are looking for, well you wont find it.
He created a new story based on a past character and how his Shine and personality help a girl get through her life with the gift of The Shining.

I DO recommend this book to anyone who read The Shining and to those who are looking for more than ha horror story full of characters with extremely different personalities. ...more

Pensé que sería el mismo ritmo de lectura que con el Resplandor pero me enfermé en medio de la lectura y eso retrasó todo pero definitivamente fue buena idea leerlo de inmediato. Es bastante diferente a su predecesor pero eso no lo hace malo, es sólo que el tono cambia porque ya tienes conocimiento de lo que es el resplandor y ves que todo es un asunto más psíquico que sobrenatural y eso lo hace bastante inquietante.

Mis problemas de salud me hacían posponer la lectura o poder leer nada ...more

Doctor Sleep

Fue un libro entretenido, realmente te mantiene interesado en que le ocurre a los personajes y a los villanos, tiene arcos bien definidos para los dos personajes principales, tiene un final entretenido.
Al ser una especie de continuación de “The Shinning” esperaba un libro más de terror, y este es más un libro de suspenso/thriller con un toque de actividad paranormal.

El desarrollo del Danny Torrance adulto es interesante, de hecho, al principio cuando es alcohólico pareciera que el li Doctor Sleep

Me gusto el personaje de Abra.

Me gusto el True Knot, pero creo que no se les dio el tiempo suficiente para mostrarlos haciendo uso de sus poderes, aunque tiene su detalle.

Pero hay ciertos puntos que no, que me hacen pensar que quizá King tenía una genial historia de Abra y el True Knot, y metió a Dan Torrance y the Shining a posteriori, que si bien encajan cuando ocurren las coincidencias entre ambos libros, una parte de mi cerebro dice “Hay sí, que coincidencia, ni quien se lo crea”

Vuelta al Overlook... esperaba saber mas sobre el pasado de Jack y su familia, no tanto sobre el futuro de Dan... pero me gusto mucho, menos que el resplandor, pero no se puede tener todo.

Me siento culpable, deje este libro en Standby por que senti que no estaria al nivel de The Shinning y me decepcionaria, me alegro de haber estado tan equivocado.
Lo siento Stephen King por dudar en tu capacidad de darle vida a tu mundo, nunca me has fallado con tus libros.
