Gone with the wind
So it’s the story of Scarlet O’Hara, from the time she was 16 just when the US division war was to begin, to her being around 30 after the reconstruction post-war.

She starts as a dislikeable character, kind of a spoiled brat. But due to the circumstances that she has to face in the book she does have to grow as person, so that is an interesting aspect of the book. On the last part she has some kind of relapse to being quite a nasty person for some bit of time(view spoiler)
