I don't think I have read a book about mental illness before, so it's probably the first time I've witnessed the struggles of a young boy dealing with these problems. It was a difficult read, t

I don't think I have read a book about mental illness before, so it's probably the first time I've witnessed the struggles of a young boy dealing with these problems. It was a difficult read, to be honest - it was like reading something written in a different language, like watching a French movie with no subtitles because your French teacher told you that you were her brightest student, so you felt like you could challenge yourself by doing so. Reading Challenger Deep was a challenge itself, one that I absolutely loved.

¿Conocen esa sensación de estar leyendo algo que no comprendes pero que es tan claro de alguna manera que sólo quieres seguir leyendo? No sé cómo explicarlo, sorry. Me quedaba mirando las primeras páginas como si se tratara de algún idioma desconocido para mí, pero aun así quise seguir leyendo. Y es que las realidades paralelas de Caden me sumergieron en una de mis mejores lecturas del año. No es fácil leer algo así, no cuando se trata de Neal Shusterman y cada párrafo te deja con el estómago hecho un nudo de emociones. Challenger Deep no es una lectura fácil, pero vale la pena experimentar el viaje hacia los más oscuros rincones de la mente humana. Un viaje hermoso, desgarrador en partes porque no puedes simplemente no sentir lo que Caden siente, lo que vive; esa incertidumbre de no confiar ni en tu sombra, no saber qué está mal contigo, tocar fondo para finalmente ver la luz.... Todo eso se traduce en una lectura casi perfecta, cautivadora y tan triste como poderosa. Estoy feliz de poder decir que Shusterman lo ha hecho una vez más. ...more

It has a few things I did not like completely, but it deserves 5/5.

If you think about it, the public perception of funky brain chemistry has been as varied and weird as the symptoms, historically speaking.
