I really liked this. I must have first picked this book us when I was in elementary school or middle school. I remember that my brother had read it and loved it so I tried reading it too and for some reason I never finished it. I lost interest and got distracted. The Bartimaeus Trilogy has a soft spot in my heart. It's one of those series that is damn good whether you read it at 12 or 22.
Having read the whole series multiple times, certain tidbits stand out: Nathaniel's casual dismissal of the commoners as boring and dull; Bartimaeus' passing reference to Nat of another master who was also stubborn and acted against his own interest, and who died young; the way Bartimaeus doesn't mention Ptolemy by name at first, simply saying that he took that ...more

Funny, compelling, and does things with its character you wouldn't necessarily expect from this type of book.
