This is an old-fashioned book. It's slow. It's not concerned with clever twists or surprises. It does not try to resolve itself with a tidy ending. But it goes deep into the experience of a family during one of their most intimate moments in time. The whole story takes place over just a few days. While the author tells the story from a few different perspectives, it is six-year-old Rufus whose perspective I will most remember.
