This was a quick easy improbable read. Flavia De Luce is an eleven year old sleuth who solved a mystery based on her incredible knowledge of chemistry. She is smarter than any eleven year old that I know. Set in 1950 in England, the book provides an interesting insight into life in England at the middle of the last century. Flavia is not a particularly likable character but like I mentioned she is so smart that you have to admire her reasoning and deductive powers.

What a delightful read!!! And why aren't there tons of 11 year old sassy girl protagonists with penchants for chemistry and bike-riding? I love this novel--it was fast and absorbing and utterly charming.
