I found this to be solidly good but nothing super special. It had good characters and felt very realistic to me, and the writing was good. However, it also felt like other coming-of-age and abuse-related stories to me. It felt worth reading and I appreciated it - it just didn't feel groundbreaking.

I read this for a community book club/lecture program and while it is a difficult book to describe and talk about, I am very glad that I read it.
A "white trash" family living in Greenville, SC, on the edge of Appalachia in the 1950s, it tells the story of "Bone", Anney's illegitimate daughter. Anney is the youngest of a large and very close family, barely 15 when baby is born.
