Impressive though probably just for people who like dystopian fantasy (ie sometimes it is a little overwrought as any good YA book should be). I particularly enjoyed the main character who is focused on protection of her family, with survival and enjoyment of food as high priorities two and three. Dealing with boys is a distant fourth (unless it directly relates to one of the top three). Quite a relief from some other popular YA series that have come out recently... Yes it's a tween fad, but it's well written and much better than the other fads (Twilight). I thought the first book was the best, but appreciated the thought that went into the other two. ...more
