A fun imagining of a society without the power of patriarchy. It’s not practical and it’s not super deep. There are lots of plot issue and not a lot of breadth in the women that live in the society. It’s like Charlotte just sat down one afternoon and imagined.

It was incredibly, incredibly enjoyable to read a utopia -- after so many dystopian novels, a utopian novel feels bizarrely fresh, and of course hopeful. And Herland is, for sure, a utopia -- a feminist, communal utopia.

If you've already read some feminist lit, there won't be any truth bombs in here. The book is certainly dated in some ways (after all, it's from 1915), but a lot of it remains fairly relevant. I found the narrator key to my enjoyment of the book; he's a fairly upstanding man who
