It was incredibly, incredibly enjoyable to read a utopia -- after so many dystopian novels, a utopian novel feels bizarrely fresh, and of course hopeful. And Herland is, for sure, a utopia -- a feminist, communal utopia.
If you've already read some feminist lit, there won't be any truth bombs in here. The book is certainly dated in some ways (after all, it's from 1915), but a lot of it remains fairly relevant. I found the narrator key to my enjoyment of the book; he's a fairly upstanding man who ...more
