This compilation of short stories really gave me a chance to glimpse into cultures that, though I grew up in, is still foreign to me. The tragedies that these characters experience touched my heart; and in certain stories, I was able to view their struggles, transcendeding their ethnic culture, but as human beings with weaknesses. Some of their experiences were due to circumstances, some were self-induced. The first story hits you unexpectedly. The last one left me with the best impression.
