I loved listening to this-- it's narrated by Patti Smith herself, so its imbued with a wonderful mysticism and fuck-you bravado. The different essays / stops along the train follow her journey as she tries to write following creativity-killing grief. Her husband died, and though it is not explicit in the text, you get the sense that she retreats into a nomadic loneliness, unable to be truly creatively productive, and distracting herself with crime dramas, secret societies, other projects (buying

One of my favorite books of all time. I will revisit this collection of essays throughout the rest of my life. Smith conveys a sense of calm and her writing soothes the soul.
