As a caveat, I started reading this at work b/c I had an electronic version while my hard copy book was at home, and then read it in between other books until finally deciding to plow through and finish it. So it's possible that I would have enjoyed it more had I read it more consistently - but probably not.

Oh, Miss Lily Bart. So materialistic and shallow and self-defeating. I don't know whether to hate you or pity you. But, surprisingly, I found myself identifying with you. Not the gold-digging part, or the rampant materialism, but the struggle to work your way through a social structure using a mis-match set of rules/values that just don't work together.
