This is one of those books that is hard to review.

It's an "unconventional memoir," a collection of short reflections and memories that are instigated by Williams' mother bequeathing her journals to her before she dies. When Williams opens the journals, she finds nothing but blank pages.

This is a beautiful memoir about a woman my age, finding her voice. The timing was perfect.

This book came highly recommended to me from friends and the folks at Book Riot. It was an engrossing book but not one that I'm sure I loved. I found the "set up" fascinating-- what do years worth of blank journals mean? At the same time, Williams' brand of feminism (at least in this book) isn't my kind of feminism. The introspection that lead to her own feminist awakening is interesting but for someone who thinks consciousness isn't enough, I wasn't sure what a reader was supposed to DO after r ...more

Beautiful language, as expected, but more esoteric than some of her work. Nonetheless, there is just so much heart in Tempest Williams' writing. ...more
