Wolitzer chronicles the stresses and anxieties of a group of entitled New York mothers. While their worries are not the same as mine, the theme that life is what happens when you're busy making other plans is universal. While at first it seems that there might be a feminist agenda at play here, by end it seems clear that Wolitzer does not see life as a battle of the sexes but rather a battle against time. I am glad I didn't read this when I was pregnant.... This book follows the lives of a number of New York moms, most of whom chose to stay at home with their now 10-year child(ren). All of them except 1 are unhappy - and she's the one whose husband makes the most money. Hmm, go figure. For the most part, they are unsatisfied and/or bored with their lives and many of their marriages are on the rocks.
