It wasn't love at first sight, but the more I read this book the more I started to fall in love with it. Maybe it was good that I didn't have high expectations... I was still looking for the reason why Isabel Allende was known as an incredible writer. (I'm sure if I had read House of Spirits first there would be no question in my mind)

A love letter to her daughter Paula, while Paula was in a coma. I love Allende's writing and enjoyed the family stories. I grew weary of her portrayal of Paula as a perfect angel, and of Allende's love affairs.
