I moved on from Persuasion to Mansfield Park this week, which struck me as Austen spending hundreds of pages working out through her prose exactly what bothers her about certain people. I think Austen's profound intelligence makes most people irritating to her. The Crawfords for example. Mr. Crawford is vain, silly, and in my opinion, weak. I think this has taken the second slot behind Pride and Prejudice (far far behind... but really, could anything come close?) for Austen favorites.

Shelves: novel, favorite-authors

It took a long time to get into this book, as with all of Austen's books. I was actually surprised when I got interested. She's such a great writer. I didn't like the romance or the ending, however. It's like she wanted those characters to get together and so forced it in at the ending--almost in the epilogue.
