What can one say about any book by Angela Davis? She's a treasure. This book, in 128 pages, lays out an surprisingly clear, accessible, convincing argument for what's wrong with the US prison system (and its export of that system internationally). Davis methodically disassembles arguments that the prison system is "broken" - she notes that it operates essentially as intended, including the racism, sexism, homophobia, and xenophobia - and makes the case that we should look for other options.
