What Members Thought
What is it about books like this that make me feel so calm and happy? Yeah, I guess it's trivial; this book is just about society, manners, relationships, etc. I don't think our society is any different. Sure, we imagine that we "do stuff" all day, rather than just talking and gossiping, but really only the nature of our talk has changed. We still spend most of our time gossiping (social anthropologists, back me up here).

Not quite as good as North and South but it is still worth reading.
There's not really a plot but a series of tales, like a diary, by Mary Smith, one of Cranford's regular visitors. She tells us of Cranford' peculiarities and its inhabitants, of which most are women who manage the society and are quite good without men, thank you very much. Also talks about the little events that shake the place, such as the coming of an ilusionist or a series of small thefts.
