This book is very well written, interesting and moves along nicely. My main takeaway however, is that Sci Fi is really not my genre.
I liked the premise far more than I liked the writing. I realized when I was almost done that I didn't care about the characters, and if I hadn't been set to talk about this with someone after I finished it, I don't know that I would have kept going.

Well, I'm glad I read this. The beginning was a slog and if I hadn't been reading it for a book club, I probably wouldn't have continued. But Le Guin's writing is immensely impressive, and the depth that she put into this world and these characters shines through. Even when I wasn't enjoying myself, I had to acknowledge the work that was being done on the page to build out this entirely new world and Le Guin's exploration of gender and androgyny through her characters. Important themes about gender, understanding other cultures and customs. But the story itself gets slow in the trek across the snows of Winter.
