Ursula LeGuin is so cool. As Ken-ichi ably points out, this is a pretty intense dive into speculative political economy... that sounds like it miiiiiight appeal to you, get after it. Lots of fascinating ideas about physics, politics, economics, social order... weird but pretty wonderful and thought-provoking.

i'm reading this novel again currently, this time out loud (as bedtime reading for our new baby), and appreciating Le Guin's brilliance in new ways.
I found it inspiring, but i hadn't realized just how much the story and the characters affected me the first time; now, two years later, the influence is obvious, and delightful. Sublime dialogue and luxuriously complex ideas on every page.
