I read this book not too many years after it was first released. It was a Quality Paperback Book recommend when they still recommended less mainstream stuff--in the days before Oprah had a book club.
Mostly what I remember of it was being hungry as there are many descriptions of food. And I remember thinking "what's all the fuss about?" It wasn't a bad book, but it was definitely not a life changing experience. ...more

I generally liked this book. It's a quick, simple read that has elements of the supernatural that are common to other Central/South American authors. I enjoyed learning about home remedies (some practical and some a little outrageous) that have been forgotten from american collective memory over generations of consumerism.
