This was kind of a strange book that I enjoyed nonetheless. It was sort of like several clever meaningful anecdotes strung together, or perhaps like flash fiction tied together in novel form. It felt reminiscent of Lorrie Moore, but since no one can be Lorrie Moore, not as good. Like Lorrie Moore without much of the plot. This is a great piece of writing. I loved how she describes a marriage, from the tough moments to small but precious ones like this one about her daughter: "But the smell of her hair. The way she clasped her hand around my fingers. This was like medicine." Beautiful.
