Ooof. In the beginning she's a fat girl and through connected stories evolves into a skinny woman. This does not end up with everything being hunky dory as one would like to believe.
The fat girl part resonates strongly, even though it has been done before. The skinny girl part does as well.
But. But...
First of all nowhere on this book does it say it is short stories. I hate that! This saves the book in a way though because it's short stories that are all looking at the same thing. What it's like ...more

I started reading this in the fall but I put it aside because it was just so angry and depressing. But I wanted to know how it ended. I picked it up again today and tore through the rest. I feel like certain chapters and stories worked better, her friendships with China and Mel, her fraught relationship with her mother and her dad, not marriage though, Tom felt empty somehow.
