What Members Thought

An Nigerian Bildungsroman following the life of Ijeoma as she grows up during the Biafran war and struggles to express her sexuality under the constraints of traditional society and her place in the world. The prose is beautifully straightforward, building themes and images to create a patchwork of events. Folktale and Christian parables are woven into the novel giving it an added intertextuality. My only niggle is that the ending felt somewhat rushed.
