Goodreads puts this title in their "chick lit" comparison test, and I would say it's chick lit in the way Maeve Binchy is chick lit--the main characters are women and the book focuses on their relationships with each other. To me chick lit generally focuses on the main character's relationships (or lack thereof) with men.

This book was popular for a while, so when I saw a used copy at a book sale for a few bucks I picked it up for a fun summer read. It never grabbed me, just annoyed me. I struggled to get even 50 pages in, and decided to give up. It is a bit cloying in its nostalgia. As my mom says, life is too short to read bad books. I'm letting go of this one.

Very charming book. The part where the little girl farts on stage at the beauty pageant and announces herself as "Pooty Pootwell" is classic - had me laughing for an hour.
