Around the Year Reading Challenge Item #18: A Book from a Summer/Beach Reading List
(I got this one from NPR's 100 Best Beach Books Ever).
Although I knew that this book was beloved by many queer women, I always thought it was because a same-sex love story could be "read into" Idgie's and Ruth's friendship. If you were touched by the movie, you'll REALLY love the book. This is funny yet heart-wrenching read that weaves together the past happenings of a small town in rural Alabama with the present-day story of a young woman discovering her own freedom.
