this book is addictive af i started reading yesterday afternoon and proceeded to skip grocery shopping in favour of reading non-stop with breaks only to sleep and shower. i came into work like 90 minutes late and i'm not even sorry

Baru sadar setelah baca (padahal tertulis di sampul) bahwa di dalamnya ada ilustrasi karya salah satu ilustrator favoritku, Chris Riddell.

I was hooked from the second page and this description of the protagonist's mother: "...she talked through and over everyone else, warm, bland, and unabashed, with a pretty woman's faith in others' helpless chivalry." Faith desperately wants her father's approval and feels she is a disappointment to her beautiful mother. I wasn't sure about this at first; I was getting tired of the Victorian girl who isn't supported in her intellectual pursuits. But once I started to see what the book was really about... I was hooked. My eyes were opened. Her writing was magical, and the places it took me were not where I expected.
