Alysia has quite the unusual upbringing, and describes it in this memoir of her father. When her mother is killed in a car accident, Abbott's father takes the opportunity to move them to a more hospitable city -- San Francisco. He's a gay poet with a daughter and the South just isn't really a good home for them -- as you might imagine. San Francisco in the '70s has its issues for them too, but this is an impressive story of love -- its generosity and its limits. ...more
