I went back and forth feeling like this was a just a good holiday read (read it while in Istanbul, in fact!), with characters who are vivid-but-not-too-deep, etc., to thinking it was much more than that, full of interesting things to say about Turkish history, Armenian diaspora, gender, religion, politics, etc. So who cares, I liked it.
