What Members Thought

This was the perfect horror novel. Strange that it's not marketed as horror. It has that spooky, calm slow Asian feel.

I found the first part confusing but intriguing. I then got into the style of writing so I could understand who was speaking and how the narratives were coming together. I think I enjoyed the 3rd part the most out of the three - something about how it portrayed mental illness so tragically and vividly. The writing is beautiful, provocative and disturbing. I think it’s a book that will linger on my mind for a while.

I imagine that this book is written from the collective second person. Three characters all tell their portion of the undoing of the central character. Though they are not writing to her, they are active participants in the narrative, rather than an outside omniscient third-person observer. The structure is very compelling, though the mystical treatment of mental health issues seems outdated but may be a reflection of Korean context or the art of the storytelling.
